  • Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mashreq Project Management Unit and Mashreq Bank PJSC. He is also the Chairman of Abdulla Al Ghurair Group.
  • Governing Council Founding Partner of the Global Muslim Philanthropy Fund for Children in partnership with UNICEF and Islamic Development Bank.
  • Member of the Board and Global Leadership Council for Generation Unlimited. His Excellency holds an Honors Degree in Industrial Engineering from California Polytechnic State University.

Ahmed Abdelaal

  • Ahmed, an experienced banking professional, possesses over 25 years of extensive experience in progressively senior roles across various banking verticals. His career encompasses both international and regional banks, where he has developed an exceptional financial acumen and comprehensive knowledge across a wide range of banking products and disciplines. Mr. Ahmed was appointed as the Group CEO in 2019, and under his leadership, the bank has achieved substantial business growth, enhanced client experience, reduced risk costs, improved asset-quality metrics, and strengthened earnings generation capability.
  • Prior to his appointment as Mashreq Project Management Unit Group CEO, Mr. Ahmed served as the Head of Mashreq Corporate Banking Group, the Regional Head of Corporates Coverage MENAT and Head of Commercial Banking at HSBC, Vice President of Corporate and Investment Banking at ABN Amro Bank, and held other senior positions at Arab African International Bank, American Express, and Arab Bank Plc.
  • Ahmed’s expertise spans several key areas, including Corporate Banking, Project Managements, where he has excelled in Trade Finance, Structured Trade, Commodities and Supply Chain Financing, Contracting and Real Estate Finance, Payment, and Cash Management solutions. In Investment Banking, his proficiency covers Debt Capital Markets (DCM), Equity Capital Markets (ECM), Project Finance and Advisory, and Asset-Backed Finance. Additionally, Ahmed has made significant contributions to Islamic Banking and Global Markets (Treasury and Capital Markets).
Ms. Mariam Ghobash

  • Ms. Mariam Ghobash was appointed as one of the Board of Directors of Mashreq and the Vendor Coordinator for Project Management Unit. She has substantial corporate governance experience with both publicly listed and private companies.
  • Previously, she was Vice-Chairperson of Aldar Properties and Invest AD. She has also served on the boards of National Bank of Abu Dhabi, Al Hilal Bank, Zayed University, National Takaful Co. “Watania”, Abu Dhabi National Distribution Company and was a Director in the Global Special Situations Department at the Abu Dhabi Investment Council. Ms. Ghobash holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and has also completed the General Management Program at Harvard Business School in Boston.

  • Ahmad Alkhallafi is an Independent Director of Mashreq Project Management Unit and the Managing Director of Hewlett Packard Enterprise for UAE and Africa and has held senior positions at the Emirates Post Group and was part of the team that launched Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company “du”. Ahmad holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Khalifa University in Communication Engineering and is an alumni of the prestigious Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Program for Leadership Development.
